올 봄은 COVID-19의 확산으로 네덜란드 튤립축제가 취소되었다. 네덜란드 정부는 지난 3월 23일 모든 회의, 모임 및 행사를 6월 1일까지 금지했다.   이에 세계최대의 튤립축제를 여는 큐켄호프 공원에서는 세계인들이 온라인으로 꽃축제를 즐길 수 있도록 동영상으로 축제 느낌을 전하는 방법을 모색했다.

이틀에 한 번 꼴로 새로운 동영상을 인터넷 업로드하고 있다. 정원사 또는 홍보관리자가 설명을 곁들인다. 다양한 카메라와 드론이 동원되어 실제 가서 보는 것보다 오히려 강한 인상을 받을 수 있다고 한다. 그러나 꽃길을 걸으며 사진찍는 연인들의 갈증은 풀어 주지 못하고 있어 코로나-19의 피해를 실감케 하고 있다.

유럽의 정원(Garden of Europe)이라고도 불리는 큐켄호프는 세계에서 가장 큰 화단이며, 네덜란드의 리세(Lisse)에 있다. 1950년에 개장한 큐켄호프 정원은 32헥타아르의 면적에 매년 7백만 꽃송이가 구근식재로 심어져가고 있으며, 개장 이래 70년동안 관광객이 꾸준히 늘어 세계적인 꽃축제를 치러 오고 있다. 올해는 축제가 취소되어 일년동안 땀을 흘려 준비한 화훼농가들과 축제산업 종사자들은 연간 백오십만명이 찾아오고 삼백억원을 벌어들이는 이 축제의 취소에 실망이 이만저만이 아니다.

올 축제 Keukenhof 2020의 주제는 <A World Of Colors>로 꽃축제 기간 다채로운 축제퍼레이드와 플라워쇼 등 다양한 프로그램이 진행될 예정이었다.

On 23 March, the Dutch government tightened up the measures to prevent the spread of the corona virus. All meetings and events will be cancelled until June 1, even with less than 100 visitors. This means that Keukenhof Flower Exhibition cannot open in 2020.

Although we have already taken it into account, this final decision leads to dismay among the employees and partners who spent a year preparing.

The fact that Keukenhof cannot open all season has a huge financial impact. There are no revenues this year while most of the costs have already been incurred. Keukenhof’s continuity is not jeopardized. However, the loss goes further than just Keukenhof. We organize Keukenhof together with many partners. It affects not only the 1,300 temporary employees, but also people who work in  coach- and public transport, tourism and in the flower bulb and flower sector itself.

In the months leading up to spring, a lot of hard work has gone into providing visitors with a beautiful experience. The park is already blooming beautifully and will become even more beautiful in the coming weeks. Keukenhof likes to show this to people under the slogan “If people cannot come to Keukenhof, we will bring Keukenhof to the people”. Keukenhof will open Virtually via the online channels. That means beautiful images of Keukenhof 2020, an explanation from the gardeners or other people who show how beautiful the park is.

Keukenhof is the international showcase for floriculture that we create together with hundreds of floriculture companies. This way we can involve people in Keukenhof and we remain the calling card of Holland and the floriculture sector.
